About Glasswren
Glasswren builds calm, transparent, accessible software for children and the people who care for them — offline-first, ad-free, and private by design.
Why we exist
A lot of software made for children is the opposite of calm. It’s loud, it nudges, it counts down, it watches. We started Glasswren to make something different: small, careful apps that respect a child’s attention and a family’s privacy. No ads. No tracking. No pressure. Just gentle tools that do one thing well and then get out of the way.
We’re a small team, and we like it that way. Working small means we can be deliberate — we can sweat the details, design for every kind of mind, and answer our own email. Our first app, GentleSight, is a quiet sight-words game for young readers. It’s the first of more to come, all built the same way.
The name
Glass is for clarity and transparency — seeing straight through to exactly how something works, and handling things honestly and with care. Wren is one of the smallest songbirds: humble and industrious, with an outsized voice, building careful nests. Together they describe what we’re trying to be — a small studio making transparent, carefully-crafted, gently-voiced software you can see straight through.
What we value
- Calm. No dark patterns, no pressure, no manipulation.
- Transparent. No tracking; we’re plain-spoken about exactly how things work.
- Accessible. Designed for every kind of mind — high-contrast, large targets, reduced motion, and more.
- Careful. Small, considered, well-made.
